Restaurante La Exquina

Bienvenido loyal reader! Please join Bruce and Mary as they explore the hospitality scene on Paseo Montejo. As usual for those of you email subscribers who prefer to view these posts from the blogsite, please click here.

Our destination this Friday evening is La Exquina, a restaurante on beautiful Paseo Montejo, the Champs-Élysées of Mexico (haven’t snuck that in there for awhile), and Calle 35.

Hard to believe that one week ago this sidewalk on Paseo was impassable due to Carnaval vendors.

As we’re walking Paseo on this near perfect night we hear pan pipe music coming from a private party atop the Museo de Antropologia y Historia. I suspect you have to be someone or know someone to make this scene.

Where else but on Paseo would this stunningly beautiful French Colonial casa house a….. cable company!? Walking this avenida always takes our blood pressure down about 10 points.

Mary is seated at the sidewalk cafe part of La Exquina.

The view from across the street. We asked our server Elmer about the upper level and que lastima it is closed and has been for about 2 years but there is talk of opening it up soon.

The vantage from our table south.

 And north.

And right in front of us is a calesa. We have vowed that before we ever leave the Yucatan we will take a ride in one of these.

We always prefer the sidewalk seating of any joint but here is the main dining room.

 And the bar.

Our chips and salsa arrive. You know it’s funny, back in the States every single Mexican restaurant brings you chips and salsa automatically and down here in Mexico we find that to be the exception.

Our food arrives. Not feeling peckish for a change, I ordered off the appetizer menu some Alitas, Chicken Wings, which are very good. Mary’s Charros Especial may be the best she has had. It is particularly meaty. My Alitas are 68P, Mary’s Charros are 45P and beers are 25P each. The service here is great and the ambience cannot be beat. Two thumbs up for La Exquina!

Thanks for visiting gentle reader. As you know Bruce loves comentarios so feel free. Hasta proximo Domingo!

Que tal Bruce.Great blog.Hope someday to run into you to buy you a cerveza for the work you put into writing it.Great guy that Elmer. He never let’s my beer get to the bottom of the glass.Next time your there try the nachos con pastor.Personally I think there the best in the city. The roof top was a great place to hangout. The owner had a problem with some of the employees stealing from him when it was opened and decided it wasn’t worth it anymore.I too hope he changes his mind and reopens it.Keep up the good work.Tenga buen dia.Cuidate!!!

    Hola Allison,

Yes, we have become real fans of La Exquina. Our current routine has us working out at Gimnacio California Friday afternoons and then getting our high protein meal, with a couple beers of course, at La Exquina. The food, service and ambiance are hard to beat.

    Cheers!
