La Expo Alternativa 2012

Bienvenido loyal reader! Please join Bruce and Mary as they do their usual Thursday evening jaunt downtown. But this time they run into some unexpected activity in La Plaza Grande.  As usual for those of you email subscribers who prefer to view these posts from the blog-site, please click here.

It’s Thursday so we are off to Las Vigas for our usual grub and cervezas and to meet some blog followers who are in town. As we approach La Plaza Grande we see tents and booths lining nearly the entire perimeter of the park. We discover that this is the annual La Expo Alternativa. The theme of this year’s expo is Crea tu Futuro, Create Your Future. With our trusty Canon always at the ready, here are some pix of this event.

Universidad Aliat is on Paseo Montejo, just a few blocks from us.

We used to go to this gym, until we discovered Gimnasio California.

Military service is required of all Mexican males but the level of involvement can be quite minimal.

Mary is standing on the southeast corner of La Plaza Grande.

Our new friends, Indianans Nancy and Dave (ya gotta love Marcelo!)

Thanks for visiting gentle reader. Now you know why Bruce and Mary always have their camera along, you never know what they’ll stumble upon. As usual Bruce loves comentarios so please feel free! Hasta proximo Domingo!

I think even Joe would be jealous of Marcelo’s fabulous photobombing in the last picture.

They were just setting up when we left town. Nice to know what was happening. Tell Nancy and Dave – we are fellow Hoosiers and are glad to hear there are others that make it to Merida.

    Hola Pam,

Yes, there are so many educational and vocational opportunites for Yucatecans, it is pretty impressive.

Sorry won’t get the chance to share with Nancy and Dave as they are on our favorite island right now, Isla Mujeres.

    Thanks for reading.

    Cheers!

Hi! That was a fun evening and we had a great time meeting and talking to you both. Just flew back last night and back to the old grind tomorrow, ugh…

We tell everyone who will listen about how lovely your adopted city is and how we love the Yucatan Peninsula.
That picture is funny; we never even noticed him back there! Thanks for posting, as it brings back yet another fond memory.

    Hola Nancy,

    Yeah, Marcelo is a hoot!

    Cheers!
