Miel Fusion

Bienvendio, loyal reader. Please join Bruce and Mary as they savor fine dining at a Ristorante Italiano actually owned and operated by… an Italian! Provecho.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Here I am, in front of Miel Fusion, located on the corner of Calles F. Madero y Constitucion. The ristorante is open 7 days a week, from 11am to 11pm.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERANow most of you know that unless it is a BD or aniversario I am much too much the tacaño to visit fine establishments like Miel Fusion, but when they do this, the cheapness melts away.

Miel Fusion, in its second season, is beautifully decorated.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe bar is very comfy and intimate. BTW: Mary says excuse me, we’ve just come from the gym. Side-note: We do most of our eating out after lifting at the gym. We have found that our metabolism gets jacked to the point that we can eat all we want and seldom gain a pound, often losing a little.

Our food has come, here is Mary’s Pasta Norma. Topped with thinly sliced eggplant, this is a typical Sicilian dish, we are told. It is a study in blended flavors of fresh tomato and basil, and is as sumptuous as it looks. And the penne pasta is done to perfection.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

And my Pasta Vodka y Salmon is delightful, the sauce is wonderfully creamy. BTW: Did I mention that Pacificos and Coronas are only 20P?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

On another visit Mary has the Pasta al Pesto. Now, Mary has made pesto many times, but she bows to the kitchen gods who came up with this. It is awesome! It is so awesome, in fact, that she heads to the kitchen to ask what type of olive oil is used. She finds that they use the extra virgen Villa Capelli brand, and it  makes for the best pesto this side of Italy. And once again, the penne pasta  is perfect. FYI: The pasta dishes are offered with either penne or spaghetti pasta.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAnd my Rib Eye. It is done to perfection! You could cut it with a fork and the marinade adds a slight sweetness that practically turns this steak into candy.  And who knew that cooked green apples and Portobello carpaccio (with almond slices) could be so complimentary?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAMary is fascinated by the plating at the service counter to this spotless kitchen.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThis is Executive Mgr Willy (son of the owner) y su novia, April. They make one heck of a team, their service is extremely attentive and super friendly.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAHere I am with our new friends.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Giuseppe, Willy’s dad, is the owner and a very much attention-to-detail man. He only speaks Italian and Spanish, so Mary has a chance to practice her Espanol with Giuseppe.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAHere’s the menu, sorry about the flashy spot.

And here are the daily specials. You can tell we will be Friday regulars, Que Bueno!

Thanks for visiting, gentle reader. As you can tell, Bruce and Mary are reveling in the discovery of hospitality delights here in Old Town, so if any of you have any favorites to share, please do so. Hasta Proxima Domingo!

    Hola Bruce,

Walked by a few times and will now have to stop in.However the outside seating in pic looks a little dicey!

    Salud!

Can’t remember reading any of your “weekly treats” and not getting really hungry. No exception on this one.

I’m glad to see more of this restaurant. Walked by about a half-dozen times in December and it looked quite enticing but nobody was ever in it. I think sometimes (I’m trying to remember), it was closed. I made a mental note of it though and would have stopped in, had it looked inhabited. Do they close for awhile at some times of year? Seriously, if it looked like it does in your pics, I would have at least walked inside and checked it out.

I looked for you two on the streets (between Thanksgiving and Christmas) but never saw you.

Thanks for always whetting my appetite.

    Hola Rich!

Yes, street level seating is more exciting but unfortunately, our insurance doesn’t cover it.

    Thanks for reading.

    Cheers!

    Hola Marly,

Yes, Miel Fusion is still building their business in their relatively new restaurant and we are seeing more and more people dining there as the high season progresses and the word spreads. They do close for the summer.

It’s too bad you didn’t spot us as that happens regularly with our readers and it is always so much fun.

    Thanks for reading!

    Cheers!!

First, I want to say how much I have enjoyed your blog. I have been traveling to PV for 40 years but can’t explore the way I used to,so you are my eyes and ears for these places.
Have you heard about El Rio BBQ up the Rio Cuale in Paso Ancho? On Sunday, they have an all you can eat BBQ for 140P. with 2 hours of mariachis paid to play. Take the #4 bus marked PA or Paso Ancho. It is on the river in a very pleasant spot with rock cliffs opposite. Check the website for the rest of their schedule and menu. We were there recently and really enjoyed the whole experience including the bus ride back.

  12. Bruce - January 29, 2013

Thank you Lucretia for your kind and generous words.

We tried walking to El Rio once and gave up when it started getting dark and we were not certain how much further it was. But now with your instructions we will bus there and check it out, thanks!

    And thanks for reading.

    Cheers!
