I live just a few blocks from El Lucero del Alba and have never been in there! I need to venture out more often. Thanks for the story and introduction to the staff
Kevin
My pleasure, Kevin! When you visit, tell them that Bruce and Mary brought you in. Oh, BTW, Enrique is trying to learn English, so try a few basic phrases with him, and he’ll be happy to help you with Spanish,it’s fun doing lessons in a bar.
Cheers!
Hi
I enjoyed a number of your postings very much. I am coming to Progreso for three months in the new year where I have rented a small apt. I have been in Merida before and loved it, and in fact, occasionally find myself thinking of relocating to the Yucatan. I would very much like to rent an apt in Merida later on next year, with a wonderful landlord like Fernando, and try life in Merida for several months. Would it be possible to give me contact info for Fernando either by return email or when I get down there when I could contact you by email or phone.
Thanks a lot
Phyllis
Just heard of your blogsite from Yucatan Living.. I will be moving to Progreso in a few weeks. I will keep you listed as valuable information – as I learn how / when /where etc… We too are going to be “working” alternatively.. as our friends do – I think you may know Chuck – I have had the opportunity to meet Jaromey too.. She’s a hoot.
See you around – until then.. keep writing.. i’m learning
Hola Amy and Richard!
Yes, we’ve been friends with Chuck and Joanne for nearly three years now and Jaromey, who originally lined up our condo on the beach, our first home here, is one of our closest friends.
Thanks for reading!
Cheers!!
Love your site particularly the restaurants and pics. Hope to check out some of these places while we’re there in Feb.
By the way, happy birthday!
Hola Ron!
Mary says thanks for the BD wish. And I thank you for your kind words. And have a safe trip down here in February.
Cheers!
Hello Bruce
And Hello back at you Rollie. How’s life in the fast lane? Drop me a line when you have a chance: brucekelleymx@gmail.com

Hola Bruce and Mary,
I will be staying at Casa Chalia for a few days in January. I have not decided on a beach hotel. Can you offer any suggestions for small/inexpensive/decent hotels in Progreso,Telchac or any of the beach areas? Probably for a 4 night stay.
I work every Sunday and always look forward to your post into my email.Thank you for all the pictures and sharing “everyday” stuff!
Linda Montgomery/Indiana
Hola Linda,
Say “Hola” to Jan and Rosalinda at Casia Chalia for us, they are wonderful people. I will put our close friend and property mgr extraordinaire, Jaromey, on your beach accommodations desires.
Thanks for reading!
Cheers!
Hi again Bruce y Mary,
Not a throw away to me. A sign and faces to to find cigars
A little more local knowledge if you are able. My wife had a bad fall with a concussion and whiplash and is currently seeing a physiotherapist and registered massage therapist for cranial sacral massage. We’ll have to cancel our stay in Merida unless I can line up this treatment.
Can’t seem to locate a registered massage therapist for cranial sacral treatment in Merida.
Do you know of any or were I might inquire?
Thanks
Hola Ron,
This, from my good friend Reg:
Have you thought of Alerfin just three blocks east of Walmart. Danny is an American who is a registered therapist…they are in the phone book……Larry uses their services…
I hope this helps (thanks Reg!)
Cheers!
We have had the pleasure of visiting many of Bruce’s “blog spots” with Mary and him on our visits to Merida. It is always a blast to spend time with old friends and experience new and unique places, food and people. Especially when Mary is the ultimate guide and interpreter, making access to the culture so much more enjoyable and easier. Keep blogging on Bruce and remember to always listen to Mary!
Igualmente, Kevin and Rosie, mis amigos. The highlights of our winters are your visits!
Cheers!
Hi guys…..
We’re back in Playa del Carmen and had to check out your blog – very cool! Going to get settled back in here (tons of laundry needs doing asap) then spend some time checking your older blogs.
We 6 canucks had a fabulous time on our road trip and a few of us will be back in Merida before heading north in April. We’ll be in touch and hope we can meet for a cervesa or two.
BC from BC
Hola Benny and Cathy,
Good to hear from you!
Cervezas always sound good, give us a holler when you’re in town.
Cheers!
Hola Bruce and Mary,
Great seeing you on the weekend ! As far as I know, Bodega in Progreso still has sardinas en chipotle… I’ll check it out for you next time I’m there and I’ll let you know. Some things are just better in Progreso !
Hola Jaromey,
Good to see you in my digital world. That is good news about the sardinas in Chipotle. Next time you’re there if you would be so kind as to pick me up a couple of tins, I would forever be in your debt!
See you soon, we love our beach rendezvous with you!
Cheers!!
Bruce and Mary. What a wonderful blog on a place that Rose and I love. Keep up the great tours and remember that being “El Cheapo” is not all bad as it usually finds you some very interesting places which you have proven. Rose and I will be down in May and will make a definate attempt to meet you two. I will buy the first beer
Hola Murray,
Hahaha, thanks for a great rationale for my cheapskate-ism!
Happy to have a beer with you when you hit town.
Thanks for reading.
Cheers!
